To the left of the altar in our church is a Blessed Mary statue wearing a white-lighted halo. The Sodality of Our Lady was established at St. Leo's Church in 1889 by His Eminence James Cardinal Gibbons, affiliated with the Prima Primaria of Rome, Italy. This ministry continues to honor Mary today through devotion and worship, most notably on Mother’s Day with a Mass, crowning of the Blessed Mother by children making their First Holy Communion, and a traditional street procession around Little Italy following the blue and white statue adorned with flowers.
The purpose of this organization is to foster in its members an ardent devotion, reverence, and filial love towards the Blessed Virgin Mary. Catholics of both genders who are resolved to being faithful to the Sodality are eligible for membership.
Members seek to raise funds for the parish, and assist our pastor as needed. Meetings are held the fourth Sunday of each month following 9:30 am Mass, except during the summer. Members pay annual dues of $10.
