SPEAK, LORD!
The readings speak in part of the Lord communicating with people. It raises the question for us, how does God speak to me? And how do I act as a prophet?
We receive many signs, events that make us pause and think. Sometimes we are inspired to reflect or so see life in a new way. This is a valid message from the Lord.
Other times in prayer or in the readings at Mass some phrase suddenly jumps out at us and it is the Lord giving an indication or sign.
Maybe people share with us or help us to see a deeper meaning in life events and choices. Could be the Spirit at work again.
In the Bible dreams are often a revelation from God. Think of how often this is true. Think of St. Joseph in this year dedicated to him. God instructed and led him through dreams.
Sincere and constant prayer is needed so we can discern where God is speaking and where this is not so. This is not an easy task and so we must strengthen ourselves to be open and attentive to God’s Spirit and no others.
Once we understand our lives can become a prophecy – a sharing of God’s message of love to others. And at times we can speak on God’s behalf. But always with discernment and humility.
Remember, we are all Baptized into Christ – Priest, Prophet, and King.
